Hamilton has broken numerous records in its time on Broadway. The musical is partially based on the 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton, which was written by Ron Chernow. The show made its off-Broadway debut at New York's Public Theater in January 2015. The show's massive success allowed it to make the move to Broadway's Richard Rodgers Theatre in August 2015. The show's success didn't just earn it international acclaim; it also spawned a national Hamilton tour production that officially opened on March 10, 2017.
The Story of Tonight
Alexander Hamilton was born out of wedlock in the Caribbean. He became an orphan at 12 when his mother passed away; his father had already abandoned him by that point. His resilience and drive to succeed inspired him to emigrate to the American colonies when he was 19 years old. Hamilton was a fierce supporter of American independence and joined the Continental Army in order to fight the crown for the country's independence. He was seen as a capable soldier by George Washington who offered Hamilton a trusted role as his aide-de-camp, a trusted officer to the General. Though Hamilton wanted a command, he accepted the position from the legendary general and future president. As the war raged on, Hamilton was instrumental in bringing French aid to the revolution and was entrusted with the command on a crucial effort to stop the British Navy at Yorktown. The show then follows the revolution until its end and chronicles Hamilton's personal and political life post war, including his time as Secretary of the Treasury. His story concludes with a history-making, politically inspired duel with Aaron Burr.

Miranda stated that, "...when I did part from the historical record or take dramatic license, I made sure I was able to defend it to Ron because I knew that I was going to have to defend it in the real world.
