Heaven on Earth London Tickets
Billed as a unique, live arena spectacular, Heaven on Earth London is a touring musical that goes back to the origins of man to search for meaning in life. Starting its tour of the UK's arenas in December 2017, the show will be put on in cities such as Cardiff, Newcastle, Glasgow, Exeter and Aberdeen, before finishing its string of dates in the country's capital in May 2018. Heaven On Earth is the creation of Sarah Jeffs, a writer who came up with the concept of a musical roughly based on the story of Genesis. However, Jeffs did not only write the book of the show. She composed the songs and was her own lyricist, as well.
Heaven on Earth London's concept
As mentioned, the idea behind Heaven on Earth takes its inspiration from the first few chapters of the Old Testament. However, Jeffs retells the oldest story in the Bible in her own way. The show is designed to entertain audience members, as much as it is put together to re-educate them about the well-known story of Adam and Eve. Of course, the show not only talks about early man's existence in the Garden of Eden but also delves into the tragic fall from Paradise after temptation becomes too much for the characters. As such, Heaven on Earth is just as much an exciting tale of love, loss, innocence and redemption as it is about original sin and other religious concepts. Jeffs has aimed to create something that offers insight into the universal search for meaning in the world, in a theatrical sense.
Key to the approach the creative team have taken in tackling such lofty subject matter is the music that Jeffs has composed. This allows for the emotional elements of the story to be drawn out in a novel way. The show's director, Racky Plews – best known for her work on American Idiot and Thoroughly Modern Millie in the West End – backs up the music with some strong choreography. In addition, the set design helps to evoke the idea of a garden of innocence, thanks to the work of Jacqueline Pyle, who has experience of touring shows, having worked with the likes of Robbie Williams and Take That in the past.
The original cast of Heaven on Earth included Kerry Ellis, a performer who is probably most associated with making the role of Meat in We Will Rock You her own. Hugh Maynard took the role of Adam, having previously made a name for himself in shows such as Sweeney Todd and The Lion King. However, perhaps the most prestigious role is that of God himself, one that was originally given to Russell Watson, a tenor who is equally at home singing arias or pop songs.
