Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh was originally called the Penn Theater and was built to be a movie house. Since its opening in 1927, it has been seen as one of the most celebrated theaters in the US. The Penn Theater closed in 1964, but the Pittsburgh Symphony and John Heinz II saw something in the building. After three years plus $10 million, the venue, now called the Heinz Hall for the Performing Arts, reopened in Sept. 1971. It is located at 600 Penn Avenue. The venue presents over 200 events a year, including comedy shows, touring Broadway productions, plays, lectures and musical performances. Shows have included The Book of Mormon, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra concerts, Dear Evan Hansen and Rent. To see the latest shows passing through Pittsburgh, purchase Heinz Hall tickets at StubHub.
