Hockey City Classic History
The first Hockey City Classic was held at Soldier Field in Chicago in 2013 and featured Notre Dame defeating Miami Ohio 2-1 in the first ever outdoor game in the history of Fighting Irish hockey, while Wisconsin defeated Minnesota 3-2 in the second game. The 2014 Hockey City Classic took place at TFC Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota and saw number one ranked Minnesota defeat Ohio State 1-0 and Minnesota blow out Minnesota State 4-0. To date, five former participants in the Hockey City Classic have gone on to play in the pros: Erik Haula, Nick Bjugstad, and Nate Schmidt of Minnesota, Jake McCabe of Wisconsin, and Anders Lee of Notre Dame. Returning to Soldier Field also is sure to keep the enthusiasm surrounding this event in a very big way, providing the perfect backdrop as the Hockey City Classic adds another impressive chapter to its history.
