The Houston Texans had their debut in Canton, Ohio, during the 2002 Pro Football Hall of Fame Game. This game only served to prove to owner Bob McNair that his dream of bringing a professional football team back to Houston was becoming a reality. The city's previous franchise, the Houston Oilers, moved to Tennessee in 1997. Naturally, McNair's journey to create a new football team for Houston began that same year when he grabbed the attention of NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue at a fall owner's meeting. McNair found that his Houston team was in a race against Los Angeles to be dubbed the 32nd franchise in the league. After Los Angeles' bid fell through, the NFL owners had a landslide vote to award Houston the franchise spot. It wouldn't be until September 2000 that the team would be named the Houston Texans. The Texans won its very first game as a new franchise when it defeated the Dallas Cowboys 19–10 in 2002. This win in this debut game marked the first time that such an event took place since another expansion team won its debut game in 1961. You can find tickets to all of the Houston Texans games at NRG Stadium and in other cities around the country at StubHub.
NRG Stadium is a massive 1.9 million-square-foot venue that's the first in the history of the NFL to have a retractable roof. It boasts a turf field that is 2.23 acres in size. The stadium seats 72,220 during football games and expands to accommodate 80,000 guests for concerts and other live performances.
David Carr was the first player to be drafted to the Houston Texans. He's known for throwing a 19-yard pass to Billy Miller, which lead to the team's first touchdown score. Aaron Glenn and Gary Walker are the first players from the franchise to be elected to play in the Pro Bowl after their premiere season in 2002.
The Texans struggled in the first few years but eventually won the AFC South in 2011. Although they would go on to win the 2012, 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019 AFC South championships, the Houston Texans are known as the only NFL Franchise to have never participated in a conference championship game.
