As the youngest of five siblings, Hugh Michael Jackman was born in Sydney, New South Wales, after his two English parents moved to Australia shortly before his birth. It wasn’t until 1968 during his senior year at the University of Technology in Sydney, New South Wales, that Hugh Jackman discovered his love for drama when he was cast as the lead role in Vaclav Havel’s The Memorandum. Since then, Jackman has become an accomplished actor, singer, multi-instrumentalist, dancer and producer.

He landed his first professional role in the ABC prison series Correlli. Jackman’s first Academy Award nomination for Best Actor was received in 2013 for his performance in Tom Hooper's Les Misérables. Jackman also won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Comedy/Musical for his notable performance as protagonist Jean Valjean. His acting also provided him Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award nominations for both Best Ensemble and Best Male Actor in a Leading Role as well as a BAFTA Award nomination. Jackman’s most recent notable achievement is his nomination for his role as P.T. Barnum in The Greatest Showman. The movie’s soundtrack, which Jackman plays a major role in, has also done exceptionally well, breaking records across the world and reaching multi-platinum status in the UK, America and elsewhere. As an accomplished singer, Jackman has also starred in musicals, most notably playing Gaston in the Australian production of Beauty and the Beast. Among his other accomplishments, Jackman has made two feature films of his own, for the second of which he received a nomination for Best Actor in 1999 by the Australian Film Institute. When he isn’t busy filming new movies or on tour Jackman enjoys playing golf, piano and windsurfing.
