Human Nature tour dates
Australia's most successful pop group of the '90s, Human Nature separated itself from a glut of boy bands of the era thanks to its mix of finely tuned pop harmonies delivered in a Motown sensibility. And they remain popular among music fans of all ages to this day.
Human Nature's background
Human Nature - comprising founding members Phillip Burton, Toby Allen, Michael Tierney and Andrew Tierney - had its first incarnation as the doo-wop group The 4 Trax in 1989. All four members came from choir and musical theater backgrounds, which they put to the test singing a cappella in the office of a Sony CEO. The resulting record deal and name change created Human Nature, as fans would know them from then on. The band's debut album, 1996's Telling Everybody, went four-times platinum. A seemingly ceaseless series of regular album releases followed, contributing to an extensive catalog of 18 singles, 32 music videos and 12 albums.
Human Nature's career highlights
Human Nature boasted immediate success with their first single, "Got It Goin' On," which reached No. 19 on the Australian ARIA Singles Chart and was nominated for an ARIA Music Award. Their second single, "Tellin' Everybody," reached the Top 30, with the follow-up "Wishes" peaking at No. 6. Human Nature's debut album reached No. 7 on the ARIA Albums chart and remained in the top 50 for 64 weeks. The foursome proved a force on the live stage, supporting Celine Dion on the Australian and European legs of her 1996 and 1997 tours. They also opened for Michael Jackson on his HIStory World Tour, performing in front of crowds exceeding 100,000 music fans.
Human Nature's eponymous third album, released in 2000, led to success in the UK with the single "He Don't Love You." The song reached the Top 20 of the UK Singles Chart and garnered comparisons to 'N Sync.
Embracing the Motown theme would prove a shrewd move for Human Nature, with the band's platinum-selling Get Ready featuring guest appearances by Smokey Robinson, Martha Reeves and Mary Wilson. Human Nature's U.S. breakthrough came circa 2008, when the band began a two-month engagement at the Tropicana Casino in Atlantic City, a feat followed by a years-long residency on the Las Vegas Strip.
