Hyundai Tournament of Champions History
The Hyundai Tournament of Champions has long been one of the most popular events on the PGA Tour, having originally been founded in 1953 at the Desert Inn Country Club in Las Vegas, Nevada. After some years at this site, it would eventually move to the Stardust Country Club, from 1966 through 1968, then moving to the La Costa Resort and Country Club just outside of San Diego, California up through 1998, when the tournament moved to its current home, the Kapalua Resort on Maui. The tournament was originally known as simply the Tournament of Champions before Hyundai began sponsoring the tournament, though the talent level and the drama has stayed the same throughout. These days, the Hyundai Tournament of Champions ends up being the perfect excuse to get lost in paradise while watching the best golfers the sport has to offer.
Hyundai Tournament of Champions Trivia
How many times did Jack Nicklaus win this tournament?
Though it was just called the Tournament of Champions in his day, the Golden Bear had no problem dominating the field in many of the years he competed, winning this tournament a record five different times to set the all-time mark. Not far behind, however, were both Tom Watson and Arnold Palmer, who each won this even three different times.
