There are quite a few UIC Hall of Famers from the Flames basketball program, including Daryl Rice, Bill Merchantz and Gregory Olsen. Daryl Rice is known for giving 100% for every game and was an integral part of the transition from Division II to Division I. Bill Merchantz was the first person to receive an athletic scholarship to UIC, and he set a record for making 36 consecutive free throws. That record stood for 20 years. For four seasons, Gregory Olsen started every game, and by the time he left UIC, he was a career scoring leader with 1,629 points.
