In and Of Itself New York Tickets
In and Of Itself New York TicketsPart theater, part magic show and all entertainment, In and Of Itself is a live performance experience that premiered in California before moving to New York. In and Of Itself was written and performed by Derek DelGaudio and directed by Frank Oz, one of the original puppeteers behind The Muppet Show and Jim Henson's Sesame Street as well as the voice of Yoda in the original Star Wars films. Derek DelGaudio is a two-time winner of Academy of Magical Arts Awards. Far more than a magic show, In and Of Itself is an extraordinarily personal performance that relays stories and struggles from his life, all wrapped around a meditation on the meaning of identity.

What can I expect when I buy In and Of Itself tickets?Befitting of its tagline "Identity Is An Illusion," In and Of Itself plays slower than a standard magic show. Over the course of the performance, DelGaudio executes six illusions, including the two-handed sleight of hand for which he became well-known after his 2013 off-Broadway run of Nothing to Hide. The show features several elements of audience participation, starting from the moment you step foot into the theater. Upon entering, you face a wall of cards, each one naming a different identity, be it an occupation or a personality type. Each audience member is asked to pick a card, and by the end of the show, some audience members' choices are revealed. Another participatory element invites audiences to locate a "hidden object" after the performance lets out. Muppet master Oz incorporates a variety of creative visual elements into the show, such as inset dioramas depicting the supposedly true stories that DelGaudio recounts. These include a brick crashing through a window, scales balancing and a robot pointing a gun. While the show is structured as a series of vignettes, by the end of the evening, they all reveal themselves to be the interconnected elements of a single story. Note that no late seating is allowed for this production.
