Jazz Age Lawn Party Tickets
Jazz Age Lawn Party Schedule
It's that time of year when friends gather on the lawn at New York City's original prohibition era-inspired event at the Governors Island. While its history is not nearly as long had it actual begun during the Jazz Age, it was originally founded by the island and passed along to Michael Arenella to organize and grow. It has certainly grown tremendously and continues to do so under his purview. It is a fabulous opportunity for family and friends to dress in period attire and whet their whistles with the drink of choice: St-Germain (or water depending on your age).
About Jazz Age Lawn Party
The Jazz Age Lawn Party was originally run by Governors Island before Michael Arenella took it on. Michael Arenella came up with the original idea and is also the leader of the Dreamland Orchestra, which is focused on the tradition of 1920s and early 1930s. Each summer, Governors Island turns back to step into the past for the weekend to explore the Jazz Age through music, dress, entertainment and drink. There are a great many activities in which to take part on the lawn. Some of these means of entertainment include looking at antique gramophones that help to restore the sound of original recordings from the 1920s, take dance lessons to learn the most popular steps of that time, pose for a photo on the classic paper moon, check out the 1920s motorcar exhibition, participate in or watch the Charleston dance contest, participate in a pie contest to win in one of the four categories or play carnival games with the kids. For an event representing the Jazz Age, it is wonderfully family friendly.
This year there are a number of wonderful performances lined up. Some of these include: Gregory Moore and The Dreamland Follies, Roddy Caravella and The Canarsie Wobblers, Gelber and Manning, Queen Esther, Peter Mintun, The Minksy Sisters, and Michael Arenella and his Dreamland Orchestra. There is plenty to keep oneself occupied and entertained at the event.
