Live the unfolding of The Four Seasons
The concept of the Jersey Boys musical was pure genius: each band member of The Four Seasons representing a specific equinox gets to recite his impressions of the group and together these impressions chart the history of the legendary band from its humble beginnings in Newark, New Jersey USA to its induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Tommy DeVito (Spring), Bob Gaudio (Summer), Nick Massi (Autumn) and Frankie Valli (Winter) each contribute their unique personalities and memories to a narrative that is interspersed with recounts of their personal sagas and how these influenced the creation of many of their immortal hits. Audiences are therefore given a first-hand account of the ecstatic story behind ‘December, 1963 (O What a Night)', the heartbreak that lies at the centre of ‘My Eyes Adored You' in addition to the jealousy that fuelled the creation of ‘Big Man in Town'. The Canterbury edition of Jersey Boys follows other productions, such as Jersey Boys Glasgow, Jersey Boys Cardiff and Jersey Boys Liverpool. In addition to the dramas surrounding the individual members of the band, we also get a peek at the dangers of life in a city controlled by loan sharks and the mob, as well as time spent behind prison bars. Original band member Bob Gaudio came up with the idea of creating a musical around Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons and assembled the team of principal songwriter Bob Crewe along with scriptwriters Rick Elice and Marshall Brickman who pen the book from which the musical is adapted. Indeed, it is thanks to their fantastic job that many of these previously unknown stories were uncovered ans provide illuminating context to the songs that fuelled two decades of unforgettable records, like ‘Sherry', ‘Big Girls Don't Cry' and ‘Bye Bye Baby'. A winner of the 2006 Tony Award for Best Musical, Jersey Boys has witnessed two American tours and two British tours and has appeared in such diverse cities as Toronto, Canada (2008), Stockholm, Sweden (2015) and Tokyo, Japan (2018).
