Jody Watley Tickets
Watch R&B pop royalty with Jody Watley live
Jody Watley has come a very long way since her days of almost bubblegum R&B pop in the 1980s, when she competed for chart success on an equal footing with the best of them. She has gone on to become a major force in the serious R&B, jazz and soul arenas while retaining a dance flavour to her music, and her releases have been recognised with multiple Grammy Awards and nominations. You'll get an excellent sense of her full range of irresistibly up-tempo music when you buy or sell Jody Watley tickets on StubHub.
Early years as a dance-pop star
Jody Watley originally made a name for herself in the soul-pop genre as a member of the chart-topping 1980s synth and vocal outfit Shalamar. They charmed their way across the world with their smooth-as-silk pop and slickly choreographed live act. When she went solo and relocated to the UK, she embarked on various musical hook-ups with the likes of Musical Youth and a trio that would go on to become recognised as one of the most seminal electronic bands of all time, Art of Noise. She was part of the Band Aid project and although technically famous, hadn't yet had any major chart success. So back to America it was, which proved to be the masterstroke as her funky dance-pop perfectly fitted the club scene over there. She released an eponymously titled album which went into the Top 10 Billboard albums chart and to the number one spot on the R&B/Hip Hop equivalent. She became a true star and won a Grammy for the album as well. While that was just the start, when you get Jody Watley tickets to see her live, you'll get a full selection of these early hits as well as the more jazz-influenced music she released later.
Becoming an international humanitarian artist
Jody Watley continued to mature musically, incorporating more sophisticated jazz stylings into her still essentially pop music. Big influences were artists like Nancy Wilson, who – very handily – is her godmother. She's also branched out into musical theatre, playing roles in classic productions like "Grease" on Broadway. Since then she's become one of the world stars who supersedes her chosen career and has become involved with international humanitarian causes for much of her time. She's taken part in numerous projects around the world, and was invited to meet the Malaysian king and queen as a result of her contributions to aid hurricane victims in the country, along with other artists like Jackie Chan and Lauryn Hill. She's also recorded and released various musical projects for many other causes, along with celebrities like Jamie Foxx. She's always performing around the world, so keep an eye out for Jody Watley tickets on StubHub.
