Joe Rogan has thrilled fans with his stand-up performances for more than two decades. Fortunately, for comedy fans, he resumed performances once the show was finished.
Making His Own Way
Joseph Rogan was born and raised in Newark, N.J. He was named for his father who was a former police officer. His parents divorced when he was five, and Rogan says that he has not communicated with his father since he was 7. He says his childhood is something he does not complain about and harbors no ill will toward his father. Joe Rogan does not remember wanting to be a comedian as a child. However, all this changed when his parents took him to see Live on Sunset Strip by Richard Pryor. He had never laughed so hard in his life. A few friends Rogan trained with at a Taekwondo gym were so impressed with the jokes and imitations Rogan performed for them that they began to encourage him to pursue stand-up comedy. Rogan performed before his first live crowd in 1988 at an amateur comedy show. Two years later, he moved to New York City to pursue a career as a paid comedian. The next four years of live performances paid off, and in 1994, Joe Rogan moved to Los Angeles to star in the Half Hour Comedy Hour on MTV.
