Critical acclaim with The Civil Wars
Originally from Muscle Shoals, Alabama, John Paul White worked as a professional songwriter in the country music capital of the world, Nashville, for several years before releasing his first solo album, 'The Long Goodbye', in 2008. No sooner than the following year, he found enormous success and international acclaim after meeting Californian songwriter Joy Williams at a songwriting workshop. The pair were randomly grouped together and found a natural harmony, with complimentary musical and vocal styles, leading to the birth of The Civil Wars. Throughout their five years together, the pair earned multiple Grammy Awards, including Best Country Duo, Best Song Written for Visual Media (for 'Safe and Sound', taken from the official 'The Hunger Games' soundtrack and also featuring Taylor Swift) and Best Folk Album, recognizing the magnificent 2011 album 'Barton Hollow'. Due to a rocky off-stage relationship, The Civil Wars sadly decided to dissolve their partnership in 2014. Over the next few years, White delivered a number of solo tracks, one of which was featured in the hit 2015 TV show 'True Detective'. He also performed a duet with legendary country star Emmylou Harris and started Single Lock Records, a joint endeavour with Ben Tanner of Alabama Shakes. A new beginning and return to solo life
White's Single Lock Records highlights many artists across the Muscle Shoals area, with whom he often collaborates as both producer and musician. Acts include Alabama legend Donnie Fritts, who was Kris Kristofferson's keyboard player for over forty years and inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in 2008, and post-Americana artist Lera Lynn, who was also featured in the 'True Detective' series, both as an actress and as a musician on the soundtrack. White released his second solo album 'Beulah' in 2016, amongst other projects, such as collaborations and duets with Dave Cobb, Rodney Crowell, and Rosanne Cash. Now, he returns to the stage to bring his sounds of the south to audiences around the world. Don't miss out on John Paul White tickets, they're available to buy and sell through StubHub now!
