Josh Kelley's releases
A self-funded release was first made by Kelley in 2001. This work, called Changing Faces led to the singer being approached by Hollywood Records, and he ultimately signed a deal with that label. Having chosen John Alagia – well known for his work with Paul Simon, Ben Folds and Herbie Hancock, among others – the musician began to record his first serious studio album. The result was For the Ride Home, which hit the shelves in 2003. It got to number five in the US Heatseekers chart and made it into the US Billboard 200. Almost Honest, of 2005, fared even better, but the ensuing album, Just Say the Word, which was recorded for Threshold, failed to make much of an impression.
Having switched labels to DNK, Kelley released three more albums in quick succession over the course of 2008. The best performing of these was Special Company, which got to number 27 in the US Independent charts. In 2011, the songwriter returned with Georgia Clay, which was made for MCA Nashville, his first attempt at a completely country music sound. This work's title track was taken as a single, reaching number 17 in the Hot Country Songs chart. New Lane Road, an album that performed well in the US Folk charts as well as in the Country Album charts, followed in 2016. By this time, Kelley had switched to another new label, Sugar Hill Records.
