Hailing from Georgia and recognised as a musical phenomenon, Khatia gave her first performance at the age of six as a soloist with an orchestra and was subsequently asked to perform globally. Performing in countries including France, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Russia, Israel and USA, Khatia has strong track record of successful concerts and albums, attributing her style to that of the 20th century. Her favourite pianist is Martha Argerich due to her distinctiveness, and she honours performers from earlier generations, including Gould, Richter and Rachmaninoff. Khatia Buniatishvili studied at Tbilisi’s State Conservatoire and won a special prize at the Horowitz International Competition for Young Pianists in Kiev in 2003. In addition, she also won first prize at the Foundation to Assist Young Georgian Musicians set up by Elisabeth Leonskaya. Following this, Khatia went on to win the Bronze Medal at the 2008 Arthur Rubinstein Piano Master Competition. Khatia Buniatishvili has played with a range of renowned orchestras, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Orchestre National de France under Daniele Gatti, the Philharmonic Orchestra in London and the Orchestre de Paris under Paavo Järvi. In addition, Katia has performed chamber music with her sister Gvantsa and in a trio with Gidon Kremer and Renaud Capuçon. Khatia has received several awards, including the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award, and she was included in the BBC series on New Generation Artists. In 2011-12, she was nominated as the Rising Star of the season by The Vienna Musikverein and Konzerthaus and was selected as Best Newcomer of the Year in the Echo Klassik awards. Further highlights include performing at the Salle-Pleyel in Paris, at the iTunes Festival in London and with the Russian National Orchestra at the Philharmonic in Munich.
