After receiving a banjo from his father at the age of 14, Kurt Vile began playing and never really stopped. He didn't go to college and worked different blue collar jobs to make ends meet, all the while continuing to play music - specifically the guitar. He formed the band The War on Drugs with longtime Philadelphia friend Adam Granduciel, and from there, his dream of becoming a musician really took off. Since then, Kurt Vile has jumped around from project to project, eventually always coming back to his solo project with the backing band The Violators.
