Experience the wild creativity of L'Impératrice band
Formed in 2012 as a purely instrumental band, L'Impératrice was born from experiments with synthesizers and music production in the bedroom of former journalist Charles de Boisseguin. Feeding off the eclectically creative French music scene, the group deployed pop, disco, electro and funk to realise a new genre of music: while electronic-sounding, there is actually no technology involved. Synthesizers, bass, guitar and drums were joined in 2015 by vocalist Flore Benguigui, who is seen as less of a lead singer than simply another instrument. L'Impératrice's music is impossible to put into a box - from mournful and ethereal to groovy and upbeat, it truly does take listeners on a musical journey. All the more fitting, then, that the band's third EP was called 'Odyssée' and featured a narrative structure about the life of a Byzantine empress who travels through the tropics and into space. Sound a bit weird? Somehow it does work, and it's all part of the boundlessly inventive world that you'll be introduced to with L'Impératrice tickets.
Modern music to blow your mind
The meaning of L'Impératrice is 'empress'; it refers to the resolute feminine spirit that de Boisseguin felt his early music was starting to represent. Rather beyond gender - not to mention time and space - L'Impératrice is a band that is boldly carving its own path through the jungle of modern music, doing everything they want to with sound in the manner of their fictional empress character. Often referred to as slightly cinematic, their sound is no doubt influenced by film - as can be seen in their beautifully expressive music videos - as well as 1970s French chanson. Mesmerising in its scope and imagination, the music of L'Impératrice is at its very best experienced live, when the fluid creativity between all six members of the band is at its most visible. Fans of artists like Daft Punk, French Funk Federation, Hyphen Hyphen and Polo & Pan need to dive heard-first into this vortex of genre-bending sound… and we're here to make it easy for you.
