Forming the fellowship of metal Gods
It’s difficult to know where to start with the careers each of these guys have had. It all goes back to 1982 when former Black Sabbath members Ronnie James Dio and Vinny Appice formed Dio alongside Rainbow bassist Jimmy Bain and guitarist Vivian Campbell, who has worked with the likes of Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake and Def Leppard throughout his astonishing career. In 2010, after the passing of Ronnie James Dio, Campbell began to throw around the idea of reuniting the original members of Dio and organised a jam session with Andrew Freeman of The Offspring on vocals. It was later announced that the band would be performing shows under the name Last in Line, taken from the 1984 Dio album of the same name. They truly are a powerhouse of heavy metal legends that are absolutely essential to see live. From the thundering drums of Vinny Appice and the wailing guitars of Vivian Campbell to Andrew Freeman’s riveting vocals, you really can’t miss out. Evolution into recording original material
Initially, Last in Line set out solely performing tracks from the Dio back catalogue. At their first show in California, they played every track from the classic album ‘Holy Diver’. However, in 2014 the guys began laying down an album of completely original material and two years later released ‘Heavy Crown’. Sadly, bassist Jimmy Bain passed away before the record went live but, to honour his wishes, Last in Line continued to rock and recruited ex-Ozzy Osbourne bass player Phil Soussan. In 2017, it was announced that a follow-up effort was under way with a more developed sound than the last, with Soussan’s approach leaning towards melodic bass parts that created a more interesting structure to the songs. A completely evolutionary band, they’re sure to take their live shows to greater heights too! Make sure to use StubHub to buy your Last in Line tickets. You can grab them today or, if you can’t make the show, you can sell them here too!
