A band that boasts about being heavily influenced by Stevie Wonder, Janis Joplin and Eggo Waffles, Lawrence released their debut album, Breakfast, in March 2016. Led by brother and sister duo Clyde Lawrence, 23, and Gracie Lawrence, 20, this New York-based soul-pop group revels in the idea of being a pop band rather than running from it.
Furthermore, produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Eric Krasno, the album also includes some other impressive artists. These include Snarky Puppy's Corey Henry, Tedeschi Trucks' Maurice "Mobetta" Brown and Adam Deitch of Lettuce fame. The artists boast their debut album Breakfast is a great way to start the day and will have you eating omelets for dinner as well.
With an extensive history in the music industry, Clyde and Gracie have been earning accolades since their preteens. After playing the Bonnaroo festival, the band earned invites to perform from Firefly Music Festival, Outside Lands Music Festival, Hangout Music Festival and Okeechobee Music and Arts Festival, just to name a few.
Clyde Lawrence became the youngest member of The Songwriters Guild of America, eventually earning his way into a variety of major soundtrack, including Miss Congeniality. With their wildly successful debut album Breakfast, Lawrence proved to be more than just a run-of-the-mill pop band. After teaming up with Grammy Award-winning producer Eric Krasno (Lettuce/Soulive/Tedeschi Trucks Band), among many others, as well as the subsequent Lawrence tour, the band signed to the Warner Bros. record label in November 2016.
The band is broken down as follows: Clyde, a lead singer and finer tenor, also plays on keys, collaborating with Sam Askin and Justin Ryan on drums, Sumner Becker on sax, Marc Langer on trumpet, Jonny Koh on guitar, Jordan Cohen on sax, Michael Karsh on bass and, last but certainly not least, his sister, Gracie, who provides alto vocals.
Although the band has only released one project, it has so far received rave reviews, described using words such as "playful," "soulful" and "exuberant." Their first single, "Do You Wanna Do Nothing With Me," is a perfect representation of what this group brings to the table. With a highly playful video that remains a fan favorite, this song and track give the perfect glimpse into the highly complex sound/ persona of this band.
Clyde and Gracie wrote and played music since early childhood and began performing at local venues such as small cafes and clubs located in Manhattan. Most notably, the duo even played in their grandparents' living room as a means of gaining new fans and improving their buzz. As luck would have it, while Clyde was studying at Brown University in Province Rhode Island, they came across an array of talented musicians who would ultimately become members of the band.
