Le Reve (which means The Dream in French) is a transportive fantasy adventure set in an aquatic world filled with elaborate stunts and beautiful special effects. Though the show has changed dramatically over its run, the basic premise remains the same: a young woman who journeys through a surreal dream world must choose between love and passion. The original vision for Le Reve was conceived by Belgian theater director Franco Dragone, who owns and operates Cirque du Soleil, and Steve Wynn, the CEO of the Wynn Las Vegas casino resort. To create the massive aquatic stage, the Wynn required 1.1 million gallons of water and 20 miles of underwater lighting cable to power 450 fixtures in the pool. Named after a 1932 Picasso painting owned by Steve Wynn, at whose casino the show is performed, Le Reve premiered in April 2005 with the frothy anticipation of a Dragone-created show. However, after it received only a mixed reception, the producers decided to rework significant parts of the show. They cut the running time, renovated the theater, installed a new surround sound system and wrote a more cohesive storyline. The new production carried a significantly lighter tone and a more dance-oriented style (as opposed to the aerobatic style of Cirque du Soleil). Maksim Chmerkovskiy from Dancing With the Stars was brought in to incorporate more dancing vignettes into the show. When it was finally unveiled, this new production was more popular with critics and audiences alike. It has won the Best Production Show form the Southern Nevada Hotel Concierge Association for nine years in a row. Since the rework, the show has continued to undergo change and reinvention. Director Philip William McKinley, who had previously worked on the Broadway-style Showstoppers at the Wynn, joined the production team around 2016. Le Reve is performed exclusively at the Le Reve Theater in the Wynn Las Vegas casino resort. Located on the Las Vegas strip, the Wynn features a casino, hotel, restaurants, shops, nightclubs, beaches, concerts and other entertainment experiences. Apart from standard seating, the Wynn also offers a VIP section with over-sized chairs and a special diver’s package in which guests can take a dive in the aquatic theater during a live performance {guests must be scuba-certified to participate).[4] Performances take place every week between Friday and Tuesday.What can I expect from a performance of Le Reve?
Le Reve takes place on a giant aquatic stage built specifically to accommodate the show. It features expertly choreographed swimming, diving, gymnastics, dancing and stunts, all performed against the backdrop of gorgeous lighting and special effects. One of the many highlights of the show is an 80-foot dive into the water below. Most of the 90 or so performers have a background in competitive gymnastics, swimming or circus entertainment. Le Reve is the only Vegas show set in an aquatic round stage.
