Eight teams are selected to compete in the Legends Classic, each team representing one of four prestigious national conferences. Beginning with games in the Regional Rounds, the four winning teams are then invited to compete at the Barclays Center in New York. Historically, the only three teams to have made it into the Legends Classic more than once are Texas, Pittsburgh and Detroit. In addition, the Panthers is the only team who have managed to win the Legends Classic twice. In 2019, teams such as Auburn, Cal State Northridge, Colgate, Green Bay, McNeese State, New Mexico, Richmond and Wisconsin won their way into this event.
