Since it first began in 2013, the festival has continued to gather momentum and to expand the variety of music it offers. What started primarily as a hip-hop festival has expanded to include some of the best talent in classic rock, indie and alternative rock. Life is Beautiful began in 2013 as a one-day event that initially attempted to showcase hip-hop artists. The long list of performers that year included Kings of Leon, Childish Gambino, Imagine Dragons and Passion Pit. When the demand for festivities and the size of the audience continued to increase, event organizers expanded the festival to its current three-day format. The festival continued to grow each year, encompassing acts of various music genres as well as motivational speakers, comedy acts, fine arts exhibits and food vendors.
