Staged at Liverpool's historic docklands
The inaugural Liverpool Sound City Festival took place across various venues, including Liverpool Cathedral, The Kazimier and The Zanzibar, in 2008. Performers included Laura Marling, Reverend and the Makers and Lightspeed Champion alongside local outfit The Wombats. Over the next seven years the event welcomed chart-toppers such as Calvin Harris, Clean Bandit, Years and Years, Paloma Faith, Professor Green and Ed Sheeran to its stages, as well as indie favourites such as White Lies, The Maccabees, Bloc Party, Django, Alt-J, Courtney Barnett, Frank Turner, Everything, James Vincent McMorrow, The View, The Kooks, Darwin Deez and Unknown Mortal Orchestra. In 2015, the festival moved to a permanent home of the historic Bramley-Moore Dock and it has since hosted artists as diverse as drum 'n' bass legend Roni Size, psychedelic rockers The Flaming Lips, indie darlings Belle and Sebastian, electronic punks Sleaford Mods and Scottish genre hoppers Young Fathers. From star-studded performances to compelling keynote speakers
Of course, Liverpool Sound City is not just a star-studded pop and rock festival. The event also includes a two-day conference featuring keynote speakers from the digital industry and entertainment worlds. Previous guest speakers have included The Flaming Lips' frontman Wayne Coyne, The Fall's lead singer Mark E. Smith, and The Ramones manager Danny Fields. Several industry figures also compete in a five-a-side football tournament named after late local legend John Peel which raises money for the British Heart Foundation. Numerous other cultural attractions have also featured at the event over the years, including Screamadelica, an exhibition designed to celebrate the art form of the printed gig poster, and the work of acclaimed rock photographers Kevin Cummins and Gered Mankowitz.
