Long Days Journey Into Night New York Tickets
ABOUT LONG DAY’S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT
Of Eugene O’Neill’s works, Long Day’s Journey Into Night, is an extremely personal and dark one. The events in this play closely parallel O’Neill’s early life and family history. It tells the tale of an ordinary summer’s day with extraordinary consequences; the story is about the Tyrone family and their battle to both hide and reveal a lifetime of secrets. At just under four hours (with a 15-minute intermission), it is one of the most powerful and profound plays ever brought to the stage.
Though the play was written in 1941 and 1942, the playwright—who died in 1953—did not want it performed during his lifetime. As such, his play was not performed on stage until 1956, in Sweden. Later that same year, it first came to Broadway.
RETURN TO BROADWAY
In the spring of 2016, O’Neill’s masterwork returned to Broadway for a special limited engagement run. The play, produced by the Roundabout Theatre Company, is staged at the American Airlines Theatre. Its current Broadway run concludes on June 26, 2016.
