The Los Angeles Clippers team was not, in fact, based in LA at all. In fact, it was initially founded as a team in Buffalo, N.Y., and the team was known as the Buffalo Braves in 1970. The Braves got switched out by the owner of the Boston Celtics in 1978, who wanted to own a team in his home state of California. The team relocated to San Diego in 1978 and got renamed as the San Diego Clippers. Then in 1984, the team relocated to Los Angeles through Donald Sterling and kept its nickname. It did rebrand itself as the LA Clippers, though. From 1984 through 1999, the LA Clippers played at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena. In 1999, the team moved all of its home games to the Staples Center in Downtown LA. Despite the team's travels, the LA Clippers is loved in its new home, Los Angeles.
