In 1907, 10 years after the events that ended the tale of The Phantom of the Opera in the original musical, the sequel, Love Never Dies, continues the story of the Phantom, Christine and Raoul. After being pursued by the mob underneath the labyrinth of the Paris Opera House, the Phantom escaped and left France. He then embarked to New York, where he was successful at starting up a themed amusement park on Coney Island. He was able to mingle safely among his costumed employees and performers at the park while creating his unique but thrilling music. However, he wasn't able to forget Christine, his former lover and protege. While he was safely hidden on Coney Island, Christine married Raoul and started her own family. Wanting to win Christine back, the Phantom lured Christine and her son onto Coney Island in an attempt to rekindle their past connection.The Sequel of an Iconic Musical
Love Never Dies first premiered in London in 2010 as a concept musical. However, it suffered from a disappointing run. Both starring leads were given to the veterans Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Boggess, who had played the Phantom and Christine in previous productions of The Phantom of the Opera. When the original London production closed, Love Never Dies returned back to the development phase. After much reworking, Love Never Dies was restaged in Australia in 2011.
