Love Never Dies background
Love Never Dies is a continuation of the Phantom story, with Christine married to Raoul and having a young son, Gustave. She is still a popular singer and an anonymous music promoter (who turns out to be the Phantom) invites her to perform at a music hall on Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York. It seems that the Phantom has taken up residence among the "freaks" in the bowels of the Coney Island labyrinth after escaping the Paris Opera House (and fleeing from Christine's love) a decade before.
Despite her marriage, her passion for the Phantom surfaces after she realizes that he is the impresario behind the Coney Island music hall. However, others have their own passions and envy, and jealousy and greed come to the forefront as Christine makes plans for her New York opening night.
Andrew Lloyd Webber, the composer and author of Phantom of the Opera, wrote the music and co-wrote the book for Love Never Dies. The lyrics are by Glenn Slater. Co-authors on the book include Frederick Forsythe, Glenn Slater and Ben Elton.
The score includes more than 20 original songs, and the soundtrack reached the top 10 in the UK, Denmark, Greece and New Zealand.
Love Never Dies Cleveland is performed at the historic Key Bank State Theatre in downtown Cleveland. The performance runs two hours and 25 minutes with a 15- to 20-minute intermission.
