Love Never Dies history
Andrew Lloyd Webber, the composer of the musical, always wanted to make a sequel ever since his hit Broadway show The Phantom of the Opera received public appreciation. However, it was only in 2010 that Love Never Dies came to fruition, premiering at London's Adelphi Theater. The director of the original production was the Tony Award winner Jack O'Brien, who has helmed such production as The Full Monty and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
Some tweaks in set design and music later, the production traveled to Australia under a new director, Simon Phillips. A successful run in Australia prompted Webber to take the production to other countries, including Germany and Japan, before embarking on its first US tour in 2017.
Love Never Dies Pittsburgh plot
The story is set in 1907, 10 years after Phantom -- the masked villain of The Phantom of the Opera -- disappears from Paris. In Love Never Dies, Phantom has a new home, New York, where he runs Phantasma, an amusement park in Coney Island. Despite his musical success, he still yearns for Christine, his first love. Christine, who is married to Raoul, is a world-renowned soprano. When she gets an invite to play at a renowned opera house in Manhattan, she can't resist the offer. However, little does she know that it is Phantom's way of luring her back to him. Christine's arrival at Coney Island sets in motion a love triangle, complicated by her trouble marriage and Raoul's alcoholism. A long-kept secret might be the decisive factor in this melodramatic romantic saga.
