During World War II, big stars like Dorothy Lamar and Betty Davis performed at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium, and big bands were a popular draw. After the end of the war, the Golden Gloves performed at the auditorium. In 1979, the Lowell Memorial Auditorium was renovated, the balcony behind the stage was removed and the seating was reduced to 3,000 from 4,000. Today the Lowell Memorial Auditorium stands as a monument to many battles in the American past, and it is also a vibrant part of present-day Lowell life.
