Luke Bryan, born Thomas Luther Bryan in Leesburg, Georgia, grew up on his family's peanut farm before heading to Georgia Southern University, where he graduated with a degree in business administration in 1999. After college, he moved to Nashville and spent years grinding as a songwriter, co-writing Billy Currington's 2006 number one hit "Good Directions" before landing his own deal with Capitol Nashville. His debut album, I'll Stay Me, arrived in 2007, and by his second record, Doin' My Thing (2009), he had his first pair of number one country singles with "Rain Is a Good Thing" and "Someone Else Calling You Baby."
From there, Luke Bryan became one of country music's most consistent hitmakers. Tailgates & Tanlines (2011) topped the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and produced four consecutive number ones. Crash My Party (2013) generated six number one singles on both the Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts, a feat no other country artist had achieved at the time. Kill the Lights (2015) debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and made history as the first album in the 27-year existence of the Country Airplay chart to produce six number one singles from a single project. Across his career, Luke Bryan has sold over 75 million records worldwide and accumulated 30 number one hits from his first ten album releases.
Beyond recording, Luke Bryan has become a fixture in the broader entertainment world. He performed the National Anthem at Super Bowl LI in 2017 at NRG Stadium in Houston and has served as a judge on American Idol since 2018. He also co-hosted the ACM Awards in 2015 alongside Blake Shelton and hosted the CMA Awards solo in 2021, becoming the first solo host in 18 years.
