The Madison Theater is an entertainment venue centrally located in the historical section of Covington, Kentucky. It is also just six blocks away from Cincinnati, Ohio.

Madison Theater History

The Madison Theater in Covington, Kentucky, was built as a classic era movie theater back in 1912. After shutting its doors in 1977, the theater sat vacant for a number of years until reopening in 2001. Although the Madison Theater would close again until 2006, its owners have persevered in their dream of making the theater one of the top entertainment venues in the area.

Madison Theater Events

A popular venue for up-and-coming bands and new singer/songwriters, the Madison Theater typically holds live events a few times each month. Performances vary and include everything from comedy acts to a variety of musical genres, such as American alternative metal, country blues, American folk and indie pop. Past performances have included Kevin Smith, Sevendust, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Shovel & Rope and The American Graffiti Band.

The Madison Theater has a modern sound and lighting system, and it is handicap accessible on the main floor. Flexible-style seating arrangements vary depending on the event, but there is always seating in the balcony area, regardless of how the main floor is set up for each performance. Seating for most events is typically general admission unless otherwise notified. Floor setups can change depending on the venue and may include:

• Club style - allows for standing only on the main floor
  
• Cabaret style - provides a dance floor on the main floor with some tables and chairs for seating
  
• Theater style - offers rows of chairs set up on the main floor
  

Covington, Kentucky

Covington's humble beginnings date back to 1791, when a landowner named Thomas Kennedy built a log home on 150 acres and began running a ferry back and forth across the Ohio River from Northern Kentucky to Losantiville, which is now known as Cincinnati, Ohio. The city was later named Covington after Brigadier-General Leonard Covington, an officer who died while fighting in the War of 1812.

Today, residents of Covington no longer have to rely on the ferry to get them back and forth across the Ohio River. Instead, they can easily travel not only from city to city by suspension bridge, but also from state to state. This allows residents to enjoy everything their own city has to offer, such as historic districts, parks, sports complexes and walking trails. It also allows for access to venues across the river, such as the Riverbend Music Center or the Cincinnati Zoo.
