Roald Dahl's 1988 novel, Matilda, captured the hearts of young children and their parents alike. Telling the story of a young girl who finds no compassion or support for her considerable budding intellect either at home or in school, the musical version is a triumph of adaptation. Imagined through the collaborative efforts of Dennis Kelly and Tim Minchin, who created the music and lyrics. Matilda the Musical first hit theatres in a 12-week trial run at Stratford-upon-Avon from November 2010 and January 2011. It met with rousing success and was soon opened in the heart of London's West End, where it premiered at the Cambridge Theatre on November 24, 2011. The Royal Shakespeare Company has done the show incredible justice, bringing the magic of this unforgettable story to tour stops across the United Kingdom.
The show has met with equal success on Broadway, where it premiered at the Shubert Theater on April 11, 2013. The show was recognised with numerous awards, including five Tonys and seven Olivier Awards. Matilda the Musical holds the record as the most decorated musical at the Olivier Awards.

The Palace Theatre Manchester is one of the city's preeminent theatres and boasts a long tradition of hosting major touring acts in theatre, dance and music in its beautiful 890-seat theatre. The historic venue dates back to 1891 and has undergone several renovations to maintain its state-of-the-art facilities, making it an ideal venue to host Matilda the Musical.
Featuring the direction talents of Matthew Warchus, the show also draws on the expertise of orchestrator Christopher Nightingale, choreographer Peter Darling, and set and costume designer Rob Howell.
