About Matilda The Musical
Matilda The Musical promises to thrill Portland audiences with wit, humor and award-winning musical numbers.; Winner of more than fifty international awards, the show continues as a fan favorite and was named TIME Magazine’s #1 Show of the Year. Based on Roald Dahl’s 1988 book, Matilda, the musical tells the inspiring story of a precocious young girl who faces struggles at home and school. Using her unique talents, along with assistance from a friendly teacher, she overcomes obstacles to create her own destiny.
Matilda is an extraordinary girl. She has a giant intellect, an even bigger imagination and the power of telekinesis. She is in constant conflict with her parents, who value looks and money more than brains. They enroll her in school at Crunchem Hall; the headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, rules with fearsome discipline. Together, with her friends and a kind teacher, Miss Honey, Matilda uses her quick wit to take a stand and free herself (and others) to create a whole new life with Miss Honey, who takes over raising Matilda.
