Matthew Morrison tour dates
You may know him as teacher and glee club leader Will Schuester on the popular TV show Glee, but Matthew Morrison is well established as a musical performer in the real world, too. In addition to releasing two albums and a Christmas EP, the singer has played lead roles in several Broadway musicals, including Hairspray and Finding Neverland.
Matthew Morrison's background
Matthew Morrison pursued a career in music and theatre from a young age. He attended Orange County High School of the Arts in his native California, and went on to study at the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. He never completed his college degree, because after only two years in New York, he was offered a role in the Broadway musical Footloose.
It was the beginning of an impressive career as a Broadway performer. He next played Phantom in the 2002 revival of The Rocky Horror Show, and later that year took on his first lead role, as Link Larkin in Hairspray, starring alongside Laura Bell Bundy and Tony award-winner Harvey Fierstein.
After a few years living out his dreams on stage, Morrison turned his attention to the big and small screens. He made guest appearances in TV shows such as Ghost Whisperer and CSI: Miami, and films including Music and Lyrics and Dan in Real Life. He also took on further Broadway roles, including A Naked Girl on the Appian Way, South Pacific and The Light in the Piazza, for which he received a Tony award nomination for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical.
In 2009, the perfect opportunity came along for Morrison to combine his experience in TV acting and music theatre performance. He was cast in Glee. The show was an instant hit, earning Morrison a Screen Actors Guild Award.
The music from the show was also a commercial success and led to a deal with Mercury Records. Morrison released his debut, self-titled album in 2011, including duets with Gwyneth Paltrow and Elton John. This was followed by a second album, Where It All Began and a Christmas EP, both released in 2013. He made his Broadway comeback by originating the lead role of J.M. Barrie in the new musical adaptation of Finding Neverland. Fans attending a Matthew Morrison tour can expect to hear a mix of his original songs, musical theatre favorites and the classics he covered on Glee.
