Michael Tilson Thomas Tickets
Michael Tilson Thomas is a world-renowned conductor, professor of music and arts ambassador. He also enjoys one of the longest tenures as a musical director, having led the San Francisco Symphony for decades. The bread and butter of Thomas' conducting repertoire is classical, especially the music of Gustav Mahler. However, he's an equally established interpreter of American classical composers, jazz and musical theater. He is a fixture on television as the host of numerous music education programs and documentaries. His Keeping Score television series examines the lives and music of several major Western composers. It is still active in many mediums and introduces classical music to people of all ages and musical backgrounds. Thomas' collaborations with artists are critically acclaimed and much awarded as he has won 11 Grammy Awards for conducting, a Peabody Award and the 2009 National Medal of Arts. Some past performances on the Michael Tilson Thomas tour included collaborations with Gil Shaham, Midori and Jean-Yves Thibaudet. Be sure to grab your Michael Tilson Thomas tickets at StubHub today.
MTT: Music in the Blood
Thomas' formative years and early career were as colorful as his later life. His grandparents were Boris and Bessie Thomashefsky, well-known performers in the historical Yiddish Theater scene in New York City's Lower East Side. His great-grandfather was a respected actor and playwright as well as a descendant of a long line of esteemed cantors. Thomas was a child piano prodigy who later studied conducting and composition at the University of Southern California. He honed his professional conductor's chops as an assistant at the Bayreuth Festival. Prior to leading the San Francisco Symphony, Thomas founded the New World Symphony, which performs internationally to this day.Back to Top
