Miracle on State Street is held at the Chicago Theatre, a historic venue built in 1921. Upon its opening, the venue was billed as the "Wonder Theatre of the World," built in a French Baroque style with a replica of the Arc de Triomphe encasing a grand stained glass window above its marquee and a five-story grand lobby modeled after the Royal Chapel at Versailles. During its early years, the Chicago Theatre presented performances by Duke Ellington and Jack Benny, among other big stars. Upon its official conversion into a concert venue in 1986, Frank Sinatra was the first performer. He was followed by such stars of the modern era as Aretha Franklin, Dolly Parton and Van Morrison.
