Moses Sumney background
Born in San Bernardino, California but raised in Ghana, Sumney developed a love of music at an early age. Due to his shy and reserved nature along with his out-of-place American accent, however, he spent most of his young years singing under his breath. By the time Sumney reached college, he began to perform along with other musicians at local events and venues. A talented guitarist, however, Sumney first entered the global limelight by touring with notable performers like Karen O, James Blake and Sufjan Stevens. Through touring, he developed friendships with world-renowned artists like Solange Knowles. Despite these connections, Sumney took his time developing his own music.
Scouted and approached by numerous record labels, Sumney preferred to remain true to his vision and released his first EP dubbed Mid-City Island. This EP contained five songs including "Man on the Moon", "Plastic" and "San Fran." These songs were well-received and left fans demanding more. In 2016, Sumney signed with the label Vinyl Me, Please for the release of his next EP called Lamentations. This EP also included five songs, such as "Ascension," "Lonely World," "Worth It" and "Incantation."
By 2017, Moses Sumney expressed an interest in extending his artistry to reach a more mainstream audience. Instead of creating another EP with a small label, he signed to Jagjaguwar records and proceeded to release his first full-length album, Aromanticism. Aromanticism included recognizable songs like "Plastic" and "Lonely World" along with new songs like "The Cocoon-Eyed Baby" and "Stoicism." Along with captivating music videos, Sumney's music became recognizable around the world. Unlike most artists Sumney offers a different perspective on romantic love. He aims to explore the notion of being content alone and does not produce typical music like love songs. As he continues on his rise to stardom as an alternative/indie artist, Moses Sumney tickets are available for shows around the world.
