Motown: The Musical Vancouver Tickets
Described as a trip back to the glory days of Detroit, Motown: The Musical is a jukebox musical featuring songs that made its mark in the 1960s and 1970s. The story revolves around Berry Gordy, the man behind Motown Records and the sound that dominated two decades and continues to influence music in the 21st century. The musical features a book written by Gordy himself. The premiere of Motown: The Musical was directed by Charles Randolph-Wright, co-produced by Kevin McCollum and Sony Music’s Doug Morris. It features more than 50 songs that built the Motown sound (though some in truncated versions), including numbers by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Diana Ross and the Supremes and Marvin Gaye. The musical made its debut with previews starting on March 11, 2013, before officially opening on April 14, 2013. The original cast included Brandon Victor Dixon as Berry Gordy, Valisia LeKae as Diana Ross, Charl Brown as Smokey Robinson, Bryan Terrell Clark as Marvin Gaye and Jibreel Mawry as Michael Jackson. It ended its Broadway run at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on January 18, 2015.The Story of the Man Behind Stevie, Smokey and Diana
The musical looks through Gordy’s success in building the Motown sound. It starts with Gordy reminiscing about his accomplishments amid the impending fall of his music empire. In the midst of all these, a tribute show is scheduled to be staged for him. However, the music mogul is double-thinking about participating in the show as many of the artists he discovered and groomed have left his side, with some also leaving lawsuits against him. It is through Gordy’s walk down the memory lane that the audience is treated to how he made iconic names in the music industry. It details his affair with Ross and how he dealt with the ups and downs of managing a successful recording company. A great example of this is him dealing with a member of the Supremes leaving the group. Another is when he re-discovered a fully grown-up Stevie Wonder playing in Washington, DC, after a holiday for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was made official. The musical even features a number including a young Michael Jackson performing with his brothers as the Jackson 5.Where can I buy Motown: The Musical Vancouver tickets?
