About Mudhoney
Hailing from Seattle, Mudhoney formed during the grunge rock movement that swept North America in the late 80s. The principal band members would float in and out of various local music acts throughout the early 80s, with its various members forming the band Green River in 1984 which would put out a series of EPs and full lengths, including Come on Down, Dry As a Bone, and Rehab Doll. Green River experienced limited success, with the band eventually dissolving in 1987. By 1988, the pieces would be in place for the original Mudhoney lineup to coalesce, releasing their first EP on the Sub Pop record label as they began to make waves all throughout the American and British music worlds. The band would become an esoteric favorite of some of the most legendary rockers on the scene in the 80s, with Mudhoney earning the respect of visionaries such as the Sonic Youth and Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain.
As the 90s rolled around, the band moved to the Reprise music label and released a flurry of albums throughout the decade. The band would struggle with the death of Kurt Cobain, largely viewed as the all star of the grunge rock movement, as the mainstream music world moved into a post grunge and alternative rock direction. Despite a loss of momentum in the grunge world, the band was featured in the hit comedy film Black Sheep, and as the 90s came to a close they began incorporating blues influences into their iconic sound.
The early 00s would see Mudhoney substantially lower their profile, as they chose to remain on the west coast and play mostly regional tours and shows. Not content with relinquishing their position at the forefront of the alt rock scene, the band hit the studio again in 2003 and began to tour all throughout the United States, Canada, and beyond, into South America and Europe. Now with over twenty years of musical experience under their belt, the Mudhoney music phenomenon is in full swing as they hold their position within the highest echelon of the modern alt rock music scene.
