The Nashville Ballet is a professional ballet company located in Nashville, TN. Founded in 1986, the company has grown to be the largest professional ballet company in Tennessee. A varied repertoire is presented each season, from classical works both famous and obscure to contemporary ballets and new works by Paul Vasterling, who is the company’s Artistic Director and CEO.
About the Company & School
Beyond performances of ballet, the Nashville Ballet also trains the dancers of tomorrow and engages the community with educational and outreach programs that attempt to bring an appreciation of ballet to everyone.
The company has 22 professional dancers. These artists come from around the world to perform in the Nashville Ballet’s main stage productions. The NB2, Nashville Ballet’s second company, has more than 30 dancers who are working and studying in preparation for a career in dance.
The School of Nashville Ballet offers classes for beginners to professionals, from children to adults. The program has a regular school year component, as well as a summer intensive session.
Nashville Ballet travels throughout the central Tennessee region to schools, libraries, parks and community centers, introducing audiences of all ages to the “artistry, beauty and athleticism” of ballet dance.
Nashville Ballet’s Home and Performance Venues
The Nashville Ballet owns its own building, which serves as the company’s headquarters. The Martin Center for the Nashville Ballet is home for the professional dancers, school students and administrative offices. Some performances are held at the building as well. The Martin Center has free parking on-site during performances and is easily reached from I-40.
The majority of the company’s performances take place at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC). Located in the James K. Polk Cultural Center in downtown Nashville, TPAC also hosts performances from the Nashville Opera and the Nashville Repertory Theatre. There is also an annual team-up with the Nashville Symphony at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville for a night of ballet and symphony.
TPAC is easily accessible from I-40 and I-24, the latter via U.S. 41. There is parking behind the Nashville City Center across the street from TPAC. There are other available lots in the area.
The Schermerhorn is also easily accessible from I-40 and I-24, and there is plenty of parking in the area, including a lot across the street. Nashville offers much to do beyond a night at the ballet, should you choose to explore. There are also many dining and lodging options close to TPAC.
