NCAA Baseball Chapel Hill Regionals TicketsChapel Hill Regionals take in four high-performing teams that compete in a double-elimination bracket. These regionals have an unusual rule that states the host school may be selected to play as the visiting team to add to the distinctive freedom of the regionals as they differ from NCAA championships or Big Ten competitions. Most No. 1 seeds host the regional games, although other schools can bid for the distinction to host. Chapel Hill gained the honor for 2020 and by doing so, North Carolina officially earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship. The stakes are high in the regionals, so competition is as keen this year as it was in 2019 when the fifth-seeded University of North Carolina Tar Heels defeated second-seeded Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 10–2. The winner of the Regionals moves along to the second tier, which is called the Super Regionals. Get your NCAA Baseball Chapel Hill Regionals tickets at StubHub.
Who coaches Chapel Hill Regionals teams? For over 20 seasons, Mike Fox has coached University of North Carolina to greatness and won the Coach of the Year award from the ACC in 2018. That year's ACC Tournament saw the Tar Heels in No. 1 overall seed position and gained their seventh division title under Fox's direction. In 2017, he was elected to the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame. Another coach to pay heed to is Danny Hall, who led Georgia Tech's Yellow Jackets to the College World Series three times. Hall is the Tech head coach with the most wins in the school's history — 1,062 — and also is the only head coach with a winning record against the University of Georgia in the well-known rivalry nicknamed "Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate."
Who are some notable players from the Chapel Hill Regionals?Kyle Datres of Tarheel fame brought home the honor of being on the All-ACC's First Team in 2018. In that same year, Datres' teammates Michael Busch and Brandon Riley made the second team. Ike Freeman, the Heels' shortstop, made third team.
What are some intense rivalries?Feelings run high when ACC Clemson Tigers play against SEC South Carolina Gamecocks, and their tense in-state rivalry began in 1896. Another in-state rivalry lies between dueling Atlantic Coast Conference teams North Carolina State Wolfpack and University of North Carolina Chapel Hill Tar Heels, which are based only 32 miles apart. The University of North Carolina Wilmington nurses a rivalry against UNC Chapel Hill that deepened with the first game of the 2019 regionals, which included a spectacular suicide squeeze pulled from defeat by Tar Heels shortstop Danny Serretti to end the game with a Heels win at 7–6.
Which team leads the ACC in hitting? You're liable to see Georgia Tech's Yellow Jackets in the Regionals deliver spectacular hits because they led the ACC in hitting in 2019 with a team batting average of .297.
Which team was the 2019 champion? The Tar Heels swatted the Yellow Jackets when North Carolina gained a 3–1 lead with Aaron Sabato's two-run home run. Tar Heel Aston McGee smacked another two-run homer later in the game, and Michael Busch delivered a solo home run in the seventh inning. The ninth inning saw catcher Brandon Martorano belt a three-run hit.
