The first women’s Frozen Four was held in 2001, but collegiate women's hockey has a rich history dating back to the 1960s. The event is nicknamed the Frozen Four as a nod to the Final Four moniker used by the College Basketball national championship. The official name of the tournament is the National Collegiate Women’s Ice Hockey Championship. Unlike other NCAA sports, there is no distinction between Division I and Division II. Who are some notable goalies who played in the Women’s Frozen Four ?The most dominant goalkeeper in the Women’s Frozen Four has unquestionably been Wisconsin’s Jessie Vetter, who owns four of the nine shutouts in tournament history. Vetter is also the only goalie to not allow a single goal during the entire tournament when leading her team to victory in 2006. An honorable mention goes to Shea Tiley, the only other goalie to record multiple clean sheets in the Frozen Four. Tiley had two shutouts playing goal for Clarkson in 2017 and 2018.
