NCAA Women’s Tournament Stanford TicketsThe NCAA Women’s Tournament is the culmination of the season-long quest for the college basketball national championship. Featuring an electric atmosphere and riveting action, the tournament is an opportunity for the best teams in the nation to compete against each other in March Madness. Every year the NCAA selection committee chooses tournament sites and host cities based on several criteria like the quality of the venue and the geographical proximity of the teams. Stanford has previously served as a regional site in 1982, 1990, 1994, 2003 and 2014. The home team, the Stanford Cardinals, has won the Stanford regional twice in that span. The 1990 Cardinals advanced through the Stanford regional as a No. 1 seed on its way to the national championship. The 2014 Cardinals, then a No. 2 seed, beat No. 4 North Carolina to advance to the Final Four before losing to eventual champion UConn. Get your NCAA Women’s Tournament Stanford tickets at StubHub.
How are the NCAA Tournament sites chosen? Each year, the NCAA Tournament consists of 16 first and second round sites, four regional sites (which host the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight games) and a single site for the Final Four and championship games. The first and second rounds sites are chosen at the conclusion of the regular season during the NCAA selection process. These games are typically awarded to the top four seeds in each region, which will then have home court advantage in the first two rounds, but it is not guaranteed. From time to time, other seeds will be allowed to host the games based on travel distance and other factors. If the host team happens to be eliminated from the tournament, then the games will continue to be played at the same campus site. The remaining four rounds will take place at predetermined locations around the country. These sites are typically chosen years in advance to host the games, so fans will have time to make preparations.
When is the NCAA Tournament coming to Stanford?Stanford is not scheduled to host a regional game in 2020, 2021 or 2022, but it may be selected by the committee in the future. If Stanford receives a top four seed in a future tournament, then there’s a good chance it will host the first and second rounds in its section of the region.
Will Stanford ever host a Final Four game? The Final Four tends to be played at a professional sports venue in a major city, not a campus site. Therefore, it is unlikely that the Final Four will ever come to the city of Stanford.
What is the format of the NCAA Tournament? The NCAA Tournament features 64 teams: 32 automatic bids from conference tournament champions and 32 at-large selections based on regular season performance. Each team receives a seed from one to 16 that determines their place in the regional bracket. In the first round, the top seed plays the 16th seed, the second seed plays the 15th, etc. The four teams that emerge from the regions go on to play at a neutral site venue in the Final Four. This is followed by a title game to determine the national champion.
How large is the Maples Pavilion?Maples Pavilion, which is named after its principle donor, Roscoe Maples, has a seating capacity of 7,233 spectators. The seats on the lower level are padded stadium-style seats. The seats on the upper level s are molded plastic seats without backs. Disabled seating is also located all throughout the arena, and entrances and services are accessible by wheelchair.
