Neil Hilborn Background
Although Hilborn had an interest in creative writing from a young age, he did not opt to pursue poetry as a career choice until 2009. In 2009, Hilborn was attending college and was an active member of Minnesota's Macalester College's Slam Poetry Team. During competitions and performances with the team, Hilborn decided to pursue slam poetry professionally. After graduation in 2012, Neil Hilborn wrote and self-published a chapbook, Clatter. Clatter caught the attention of editors at Button Poetry and the book was published once again, with their publication credit, in 2013. During this time, Hilborn acted as a coach and hosted poetry workshops at Macalester College while performing locally.
After the viral video of Hilborn's performance in 2013, he was signed to College Agency and began the Neil Hilborn tour, which consisted of performing at a number of colleges around the country. In 2015, Hilborn published his second book, Our Numbered Days, which sold over 50,000 copies, landing the book on Amazon's best sellers list. Hilborn continues to compete in slam poetry competitions and regularly performs for large audiences at numerous venues.
