He is world-renowned for his renditions and interpretations of Mozart's violin concertos, along with those of almost all the other major composers, from Beethoven to Brahms, Mendelssohn to Elgar and Prokofiev. Any lover of the classical violin will no doubt be eager to buy or sell Nikolaj Znaider tickets on StubHub.
A prize-worthy classical violin apprenticeship
Nikolaj Znaider won the coveted first prize at the Carl Nielsen International Music Competition in Denmark when he was only 17, and a few years later managed third prize at the highly revered International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition. By the age of 22 he'd added the first prize at the Belgian Queen Elisabeth Music Competition and the classical world was the oyster of this hugely talented young classical musician. From there it was off to the Juilliard School of Music, where he met his first major mentor, the school's late and much-lamented maestro, Dorothy DeLay. After graduating he set off to record some of his favourite classical violin works, and has amassed a very respectable discography. His releases include an album of Brahms’ chamber and violin music with Yefim Bronfman that was highly lauded, and another acclaimed recording with Riccardo Chailly and the Gewandhaus Orchestra of Leipzig, this time a DVD release of Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto. An equally successful career as an orchestra conductor
Nikolaj Znaider also embarked on a career as a conductor, with similar levels of success as that of his playing career. He studied under Sir Colin Davis and then went on to become a guest conductor with a range of European orchestras, including the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra in St Petersburg and the Swedish Chamber Orchestra. One of his other guest conductor appearances was with the Orchestre Nationale de Lyon, and this was followed in 2018 by a permanent appointment as the orchestra's conductor. He continued to perform and record as a violinist too, releasing several more albums which this time included the violin concertos of Beethoven and Mendelssohn with the accompaniment of Zubin Mehta conducting the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and the violin concertos of Korngold and Brahms, this time with Valery Gergiev and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
