Where is the Northern Trust Open played?
The Northern Trust Open is held at various different courses in the Northeast. Previously, the event was always held at courses in New York and New Jersey, but the event moved to TPC Boston for the 2020 version of this tourney. Therefore, the scores will vary from year to year as some of the courses tend to be more challenging than others. The event was held continuously at Westchester Country Club until 2006 when it was decided to move the event around the area.
What are some notable performances at the Northern Trust Open?
In 2015, Jason Day ran away from the field to post a six-stroke victory at Plainfield Country Club. Day tied three other golfers to set the event record with a score that was 19 under par. For Day, it was his fifth win of that season although he ultimately lost the FedEx Cup trophy to Jordan Spieth.
What are some highlights of the Northern Trust Open?
In all of PGA history, there have been only three golfers to ever make two holes-in-one in the same round of golf. It happened in the 2015 event. Brian Harman had two aces in the same round. The second ace was on a par-3 228-yard hole at Plainfield Country Club. Even with the two holes-in-one, this was Jason Day's year, and he ran away with the title. Harman finished in 30th place.
How many golfers make the Northern Trust Open?
Since this is the first event of the playoffs, the Northern Trust Open has the largest field, consisting of the top 125 players on the Tour, ranked by FedEx Tour points. How does the TPC Boston course play?
TPC Boston is a longtime spot on the PGA Tour circuit and was designed by golf legend Arnold Palmer. TPC Boston is a par 72, but at just over 7,200 yards, the course is more than manageable. Golfers always tend to go low at TPC Boston since the par-5's are forgiving and easy birdie opportunities.
What was the most memorable finish at this event?
In 2009, there were four of the best golfers in the world, including Tiger Woods, who were poised for a playoff in this event. However, the little-known Heath Slocumb, who was battling them all down the stretch, had different ideas. Slocumb drained a 20-foot par putt on the final hole of the tournament to stay one stroke ahead of the rest of the pack and claim victory in the event.Back to Top
