Has Oakland had any success in the NCAA Tournament?The Oakland Grizzlies team has advanced to the NCAA Tournament three times since becoming a Division I team. Its first berth came in 2015. That year, the team got its only ever March Madness win as it defeated Alabama A&M 79-69 in the opening round game. This play-in game put Oakland in the tournament's first round, which it lost 96-68 to No. 1 seed North Carolina. The Grizzlies did not return to the NCAA Tournament until 2010 when it got an automatic bid by winning the Summit League conference tournament. That year, the squad lost in the first round 89-66 to Pittsburg. Oakland returned to the Big Dance in 2011, this time with its highest seeding ever at No. 13. However, the Grizzlies lost 85-81 to No. 4 seed Texas. Since joining the Horizon League, Oakland has yet to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. The team won the 2016-2017 Horizon League regular-season championship. However, it lost out on a March Madness bid when it was eliminated from the conference tournament.
