What is Oaklawn's connection to American Pharaoh?Champion racehorse American Pharoh, trained by Bob Baffert, swept his way through the early season races at Oaklawn before powering on to receive the Triple Crown in 2015. American Pharaoh won both the Rebel Stakes and the Arkansas Derby. His performance in the Arkansas Derby displayed his talent as he pulled away from his rivals on the far turn, leading him to victory. A statue of the Triple Crown winner, American Pharoh, can be seen on the grounds of Oaklawn as a tribute to his shining defeat in 2015.

How long has Oaklawn Park hosted races?This historic track began racing all the way back in 1904. Unfortunately, horse racing was not always popular in Arkansas. In 1907, the governor sent the militia to prevent horse racing at the track, which resulted in the track getting shut down until 1935. The track reopened that year and Oaklawn has become a popular tourist destination since then as visitors flock to Hot Springs for the early season racing.
